The only resort on the eastern side of the island is the small village of Juara, which, unlike the smaller ones on the west coast, stretches along a 2.5 km long beach.
The beach in Juara
The beach in Juara is truly atypical of what you'll find in other places on Tioman. It is also sandy, but it is many times larger, both in width and length.
You walk about 30 meters from the development (the hotel cabins) to the edge of the sea. From the northernmost to the southernmost tip of the bay you walk for 2 and a half kilometres. All the time there is only clean sand, sea and palm trees.
The sea here is much more lively and therefore you have to expect the presence of larger waves of half to one meter throughout the day.
How to get to Juara
In high season, a boat service is offered directly from the mainland. The Bluewater.my shipping company has a direct service from the port of Mersing at least once a day.
If you're already on Tioman, you'll be able to get around the island. You have to cross the mountains to get from Tekek. Fortunately, there is a tarmac road and it is the only place where taxis operate - the so-called 4WD taxis. We write in detail about the possibility of this transport in the article Transport on Tioman.
You can also cover the road on a rented scooter. But be careful especially in the curves, as the gradient is very steep and there is a risk of collision with an oncoming jeep.
Adventurous characters can go on a trek of several hours. The trail is passable and follows the road most of the time.
