Come muoversi a Tioman

Tioman

Despite its size, Tioman retains the character of a tropical paradise without unnecessary infrastructure. The various villages along the island are not connected by road, but only by a pedestrian path through the jungle, and often not even that and it is necessary to use boats, the so-called Sea Taxi.

On foot

You can use walking while staying in the individual villages, but also for example when moving between them. One of the many great trekking routes runs from Genting to Paya. It takes less than an hour and you can walk the whole way through the jungle on a tarmac path or part of it on the beach.

In the villages themselves, the standard is that the road is concrete but with holes and imperfections.

Sea Taxi

Boats are an essential part of public transport on Tioman. If you want to move from one village to another, you have to board a boat and cross the stretch.

Sea taxis are on demand. You need to find a kiosk or agency to agree on a time for the boat to pick you up and take you somewhere, and possibly a time to pick you back up.

Usually a boat ride costs from 40 MYR to 60 MYR per person depending on the distance you want to travel. For example, from Paya to Tekek the price is just 40 MYR.

By car 4WD

Although we mention in the introduction that there are no roads on Tioman, this is not entirely true. There is one main road, from the main village of Tekek to the beach resort on the other side of Juara. The road cuts across the island, so expect huge climbs and descents. For this purpose, only 4WD vehicles are on the island.

Taxis here are large bodied cars like the Toyota Hilux. Tourists here often ride directly on the back of the car and not inside. Also try. You just have to take into account that the body is hard and you will feel every unevenness of the road.

The trip from Tekek to Juara costs 35 MYR and for the same amount you can go the other way.

You book the car in advance just like a sea taxi, but in this case you can very often catch a passing car and ask for a lift.

Rent a scooter

In the same locality, i.e. Tekek and Juara, you can use the road to rent a scooter and move around the two villages independently. You can find rental kiosks along the road in Tekeko.

You can also rent a scooter for an hour, when it is easier to get to the Marine Park in the northern part of the island. A 1-hour rental costs 20 MYR. A full-day rental costs 80 MYR.

Rent a bicycle

In some villages you can also rent a bicycle. In Paya, for example, there is a bike rental shop right by the pier. However, they don't make much sense as Paya in particular is no more than 1km from the northernmost to the southernmost part of the village and you can't ride outside of it.
