A typical meal is a sandwich with succulent flying fish, and for dessert be sure to try the rum cake.

A popular alcoholic drink is the rum punch. Worth trying is the local Mauby syrup, which tastes of aniseed, cinnamon and other spices. It tastes similar to Coca-Cola, but you may be surprised by its bitter taste. It's also worth trying the only local Banks beer. You can't leave Barbados without trying the local Mount Gay Rum. It is the oldest branded rum in the world.

If you want to save some money and eat like a local, eat at stalls or fast food joints (Chefette - the local Mc Donald's). Prices usually don't exceed 9 eur. If you want to try fresh seafood, head to Oistins. The local fish markets have barbecues every Friday night at reasonable prices.

Barbados has a large number of restaurants serving local and international cuisine, from Asian to European. Prices range from 15 eur upwards.
